Preparing our children for the Sacraments of Confirmation, First Reconciliation & First Communion
Confirmation will be celebrated in Holy Cross church on Tuesday 3rd March (7pm)
Parents/Guardians are a crucial part of sacramental preparation.
There will be a meeting for them at BJDS on Wednesday 28th January (6pm)
Enrolment of the children will take place on Sunday 1st February (10am Mass)
The children will receive instruction during the 10 a.m. Mass on the 3 dates below.
After the opening prayer of the Mass, they will go to the hall with their catechists and will return for the offertory.
1st Class: Sunday 8th February (10am Mass)
2nd Class: Sunday 15th February (10am Mass)
3rd Class: Sunday 22nd February (10am Mass)
Reconciliation: First confessions will be on Thursday 26th February
For any child due to receive Confirmation but NOT attending St. Francis, or another Catholic school, interested parents/guardians should please contact Fr. Donal or Fr. Caoimhin, so that their child's preparation can be arranged.
Sacrament Dates, Meetings & Classes
All parents/Guardians of those children preparing for and due to celebrate the Sacraments of Confirmation, Reconciliation, and First Eucharist, should have received letters from both parish and St Francis Primary School along with dates of parish preparations and celebrations for each appropriate Sacrament.
If for any reason a parent/Guardian of a child due for such a Sacrament has not received such information (especially if not at St Francis Primary school or attending a non-Catholic school), please contact Fr. Dónal or Fr. Caoimhín by phone or email info@blessedjohndunsscotusparish.org.
The Parish Preparation Sessions can be viewed here and are obligatory and to be attended by child and parent/guardian prior to reception and celebration of each Sacrament.

We gather outside the doors of the church for the Blessing of fire, lighting of Easter Candle and procession into the church

TRANSITUS OF SAINT FRANCIS
Saturday 3rd October (Service starts at 7pm).
The Transitus of St. Francis is traditionally celebrated by Franciscans all over the
world on October 3rd. This is the vigil of the feast of St Francis and is a night to
commemorate the death of our beloved Saint.
Transitus is a Latin word that means passage or cross1ng over.
Feast of St. Francis of Assisi: Sunday, 4th October
The celebration of the feast day will include our 5.30pm Vigil Mass on Saturday (3rd October)
and our two Sunday
Masses at lOam and 12 noon.
Programme for Holy Week:
Palm Sunday: Blessing of Palms at all Masses: Vigil 5.30pm; Sunday 10am; 12noon; 6pm.
Holy Thursday: No Morning Mass 11am Chrism Mass at St Andrews Cathedral • Easter Triduum Begins with Mass of the Lord's Supper 8pm
Including washing of feet. Please can we have 12 volunteers for this ceremony.
Good Friday: Day of Fasting and Abstinence
No Morning Mass. Morning Prayer at 9.30am
3pm Solemn Liturgy of the Lord's Passion with Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion
7pm Way of the Cross and Veneration of the Cross
Holy Saturday: No Morning Mass. No Mass at 5.30pm
9.30am Morning Prayer 8pm Vigil of the Resurrection: Blessing of fire; Lighting of Easter Candle; Procession into Church Liturgy of the Word; Celebration of the Eucharist
Easter Sunday: Masses at 10am 12noon and 6pm
